What is the Yakima JayLow and How Do You Use it?

The Yakima JayLow is known for its versatility and ease of use. You can carry one boat in the J-Cradle or even stack two boats by adjusting the arm to the vertical position. The JayLow comes fully assembled out of the box and offers tool-free installation.

Simply release the red lever, then open up the padded arm, re-securing it by closing the same red lever. The JayLow fits most cross bars, including round, square, factory, and aerodynamic-style bars. However, it won’t be suitable for square bars with a depth exceeding 38mm. If your vehicle has round bars, you’ll need Yakima’s RoundBar Adapter for the JayLow.

Position the JayLow across the bar, and then use the knobs on the side to tighten it down, making sure the knobs land in a horizontal position. Loading a kayak is just as easy. Adjust the upright position with integrated cam lever, then place your kayak on the rack and secure it with the included heavy-duty straps and bow/stern tie-downs. Once your boat is secured in the JayLow, you can use the same SKS (Single Key System) key that your other Yakima accessories use to lock the mount.

The JayLow supports 1 boat up to 79.5 lbs., or 2 kayaks or canoes with a combined weight of 110 lbs. or less. Just be sure you have a minimum crossbar spread of 24” or more.

Who is and isn’t the Yakima JayLow for?

If your crossbars fall outside of the compatible range or need to carry more than 2 kayaks, you may want to consider other options.
